20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jn. 6:51-58 | August 19, 2018

The readings this Sunday invite us to reflect on God’s invitation to communion. This communion is made in a family setting where everyone is to share at one table. This opens for us that God planned since the beginning to build a familial relationship with us, He being our Father. God, as a Father, offers us the best of food wherein we can satisfy our hunger, both spiritual and physical. He invites everyone to share in meal, but beyond that He invites us to share in His life. This is why Jesus in our Gospel invites us to eat and drink His body and blood, respectively, to share in His life. Salvation is attained only when man is communion with Him, when he shares in the life of Jesus. This why St. Paul reminds us to live as wise persons, not as foolish ones that we can make most of the opportunities God has given us in this evil days. To be wise is to see God’s hand in the right place and in the right time, painful it may be sometimes.
