Don Salvador Benedicto, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL–In celebration of Environment Month, Religious and Lay administrators, employees and NSTP students of the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos joined the National Day for Youth in Climate Actions by planting 1020 fast-growing, premium, native Philippine trees during the UNO-R NSTP Tree Planting Day on December 1, 2018 along the perimeter fence of the Agustinos Recoletos EcoPark in the Municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, Philippines. Considered as “Trees for the Future”, Katmon, Yakal-Saplungan, Nato, Bitanghol, White Lauan, Lambunao, Malabayabas were planted on the borders of the 9.6 hectare EcoPark. Through the UNO-R Environmental Compliance and Sustainability Program (ECSP), the Energy Development Corporation – UNO-R’s tree-planting partner, provided the seedlings for free. “When mature, the grandeur of these flowering trees will be comparable to the cherry blossoms of Japan.” – Mely Flores, ECSP OIC. Recognizing its significance to the country’s environmental sustainability, 169 NSTP students supported the activity.
