QUEZON CITY – On February 2, the Parish Youth Ministry (PYM) of the Our Lady of Consolation Parish in Miranila officially launched the Year of the Youth (YOTY) in concurrence with the parish’s 32nd founding anniversary.
The celebration was themed, Kilos Kabataan (literally, Youth Movement), an invitation for the young people to respond to their call to mission through active service in the parish.
In his opening remarks, P. Fray Gideon Antolin U. Lagrimas, OAR, parish priest of OLCP, stressed that despite coming from varied backgrounds or being part of different organizations in the parish – whether as an altar server or choir member, a member of the Legion of Mary or a Recollect Augustinian Youth – what brings us together is our common encounter with Jesus Christ himself, who dwells at the center of all of our activities.
Ardy Veloso from the Commission On Youth of the Diocese of Novaliches was invited to shed some light on the goals of the YOTY as well as its overarching theme: “Filipino Youth in Mission: Beloved, Gifted, Empowered.”
Over 60 performers shared their God-given talents in the variety show that followed, which showcased multiple production numbers of music and dance, injected with inspirational testimonials.
The program was made extra-special because these performances featured alumni members of the Parish Youth Ministry; former leaders and scholars took the stage to reminisce and to share how their years in the Youth Ministry impacted their academic, spiritual, and family life.
The program closed with a torch-lighting ceremony, followed by a heartfelt praise and worship session led by the Catholics for Family and Life (CFL) Youth Ministry band.
The parish came alive that night, and the PYM of Our Lady of Consolation is hopeful that this same energy be maintained throughout the rest of the activities lined up for the 2019 Year of the Youth.
Present during the activity are the various youth organizations of OLCP such as the Legion of Mary, Recollect Augustinian Youth, Parish Youth Ministry, Parish Youth Central, Chapel Choirs, and Confraternity of Augustinian Recollect Altar Server.
