San Sebastian sent University of the Philippines crashing back to earth after scoring a 73-64 win on Friday in the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup.

RK Ilagan drilled four treys to finish with 18 points to go with five rebounds, and two assists to lead a flying start by the Golden Stags in the summer tournament.

Allyn Bulanadi added 16 points and seven boards as Jessie Sumoda collected 13 points and three rebounds for the NCAA team.

San Sebastian also capitalized on UP’s errors, turning the Fighting Maroons’ 15 turnovers into 11 easy points as it posted a 15-point lead in the third quarter.

UP cut it down to as low as seven, 71-64, after a Juan Gomez de Liano trey, but Emmanuel Bonleon ended the frame with a lay-up to make it a 73-64 affair.

Ilagan and Bulanadi then took over in the payoff period as the Stags kept a safe distance between them and the Maroons.

“Alam naman natin kung gaano sila kalakas, but I guess they are not in game form at marami pang injury. But I know come the UAAP, gagaling yan at team to beat yan,” said coach Egay Macaraya.

Ricci Rivero carried UP with 19 points, six rebounds, and two assists, while Jun Manzo chipped in 12 points, three dimes, and two boards.

The Fighting Maroons sunk to an even 2-2 in Group A.
