CEBU CITY–To strengthen the environmental awareness of the youth in Northern Cebu, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) conducted an educational caravan on June 28.

The University of San Jose – Recoletos (USJ-R) was the only university invited to take part in the said endeavor. The school was given the privilege to share its expertise in showcasing its initiatives to fight climate change. Sample recycled materials made in the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) of the Basak Campus were brought to demonstrate outcomes of an effective solid waste management system.

Aside from demonstrating how to recycle paper, USJ-R also brought along its eco bus.

The bus is a mobile library filled with books about climate change. Its furniture like tables and chairs are made from recyclable materials like tires. It is also decorated with stickers which features what people can do to protect Mother Earth.

The said event was held at Don Celestino Martinez, Sr. Sports and Cultural Complex in Bogo City. It was participated by 13 schools from four local government units in Northern Cebu.
