Bacolod City, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL–The Student Catholic Action Alumni Association, UNO-R Chapter, with the participation of the Religious Education Department, Campus Ministry Office and Integrated School Department, organized a concert for a cause with the title “One Heart, One Voice: A Reflective Gospel Concert”, held at the St. Nicholas of Tolentine Oratory, UNO-Recoletos, Bacolod City.
The main purpose of the said gospel concert was to raise awareness among young students in terms of their missionary consciousness. It also aimed to raise funds to help and support financially the OAR missionaries and to aid their missionary projects in Sierra Leone, Africa. According to Mr. Joey Jolito, SCAP Alumni President, this is the response of the alumni to the three big events in the university this year, namely: the Year of the Youth, the Commemoration of the 100th Year Anniversary of the Maximum Illud of Pope Benedict XV, and the Declaration of October 2019 as Extra Ordinary Month of the Mission by Pope Francis. Also, the University Week celebration was anchored on the theme, “One Soul and One Heart Directed towards God”.
Various local singing groups and musicians (from Bacolod) sang and performed in the said concert, namely: Jubilate Deo Chorale (SCAP alumni and REED faculty members), Strings Authority (Mr. Nimrod Villamarzo- violinist and Mr. Noel Genorage, Jr. – guitarist), Java Loca (Mr. John Michael Tambasen, Ms. Rich Ann Penoroya and Charles Tan), and the Singing Priests (Fray Amadeo Lucero, OAR, Fray Jose Teodulco Jadulco, OAR, and Fray Leo Alaras, OAR). The concert ran from September 5-6, 2019 with four shows – one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Students from the Junior High and Senior High Departments, Tertiary Level, Graduate School, teaching and non-teaching personnel, and a great number of guest watched the said concert.
Miss Jamicha Trujillo, secretary of the Campus Ministry Office said, “Based on what I have heard from the from the 4 REED students, they were so amazed to watch the performances and inspired by the set of song selections, video presentation from Sierra Leone, and the live video message from the missionaries in Africa. Furthermore, the title of the concert shows that the UNO-R community, indeed, is united for the noble purpose of helping the mission in Sierra Leone, Africa.”
Fray Ronel P. Gealon, OAR, spiritual director of SCAP alumni expressed his gratitude to his brother religious administrators and the whole UNO-R community for their whole-hearted support for the success of the show. The SCAP alumni and other support groups are looking forward to a sequel concert with the same aim and objective of helping other missionary communities administered by the Augustinian Recollects of the Province of St. Ezekiel Moreno.
