CEBU CITY—At the height of what is considered the final stage in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) Volleyball tourney, both the University of San Jose – Recoletos Women’s and Men’s Volleyball teams conclude their 2019 CESAFI season with a 2nd place finish overall at the Southwestern University-PHINMA (SWU- PHINMA) Coliseum, yesterday, October 28, 2019. In the first game of the afternoon, the USJ-R Jaguars Men’s Volleyball Team bowed down in 3 sets, 0-3, against the UC Webmasters Men’s Volleyball Team. After a blowout 15-25 loss in the 1st set, the Jaguars upped their tenacity but fell short in the next two sets, 19-25 and 20-25, giving the UC Webmasters their second win in a row, and the CESAFI 2019 championship trophy in the Volleyball Men’s Category.

In the final game however, despite dominating the first set, 25-17, the USJ-R Women’s Volleyball team fell short in the next 3 sets, 21-25, 14-25, and 12-25, against the powerhouse University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), ending their do-or-die Game 3, 3-1. Despite falling short in their quest for the title, senior Middle Blocker of the USJ-R Women’s Volleyball Team, Danivah Sheilo Aying, said she is still proud of the heights their team reached. “Ang ako maingon rajud sa amoa team karon Cesafi 2019 is proud ko. To think nga daghan bag-o sa amoang team pero nakaya namo. Each one of us gave our best jud. Individually we are strong but together we are stronger. Og sa tanan namo kahago og mga sacrifice kay wala jud mi nakalimot og pasalamat ni Lord sa tanan nga amoang nadawat.” The 2019 CESAFI Season repeats the 2nd place finish of the USJ-R Women’s Volleyball Team last year, as rivals USPF Panthers secured their three-peat campaign. The USJ-R Men’s Volleyball Team however, improved their 3rd place finish as they finished as the runner-up to the 2019 Men’s Volleyball champions, UC Webmasters.
