An earthquake with a 6.5 magnitude struck the island of Leyte last July 7, 2017. Many houses in Ormoc City and Kananga town were badly damaged by the tremors, and of the succeeding aftershocks. The Province of St. Ezekiel Moreno thru the Commission on Social and Ecological Concerns - Recoletos organized an immediate relief response to the affected families; the commission started to adapt the name ARCORES (Augustinian Recollect Solidarity network - Philippines) to allign the Order's call for a unified identity in our social outreach efforts globally.

For this effort on earthquake relief drive called "Eco-Tabang" the Province released the amount of Php 150,000.00 from the heartanonymous fund. Eco-Tabang ('eco-help' or 'eco-outreach) is an eco-sustainable outreach of ARCORES (Augustinian Recollect Solidarity network - Philippines) HEARTanonymous & USJ-R Infecop in partnership with Sustainable Energy and Enterprise Development for Communities, Greenpeace Philippines & The Climate Reality Project Philippines.

On July 12, 2017, the ARCORES team visited the ground zero of the earthquake in Barangay Lake Danao, Ormoc City on whose chapel is dedicated to St. Ezekiel Moreno, distributing 120 solar lamps, banig (sleeping mats) and recycled tarpaulins to the 87 affected families.

Pope Francis personally received the framed artwork "Embracing Mercy" from a Filipino liturgical artist at the Sala Clementina, Vatican City, Rome after the special papal audience granted to the Augustinian Recollects who are participating in the 55th General Chapter last October 20, 2016.

 The Circles of Continuing Presence:

  1. The image of the Immaculate Conception - Remembering... in the year 1621, the Recoletos was entrusted and established the first community in the island of Cebu in the Hermitage of Immaculate Conception; from then on, shared the Recoletos spirit of mission among the poor in Cebu.
  2. The image of San Jose - Transforming... in the year 1947 Colegio de San Jose was established, the Recoletos' evangelizing mission bears into fruition the "educational apostolate" in the hearts of the Visayan populace and beyond. In the year 1984, the school was granted the University status - becoming the University of San Jose - Recoletos.

Laudato Si': Celebration of the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation and the opening of the Season of Creation, the Rekoleto way thru Eucharistic celebration, blessing of the Grotto and blessing of seedlings. Participated by USJ-R students, staff, teachers; as well as representatives from NGOs, JPIC Coordinators of different religious congregations.

Fr. Ramon shared 'eco-witnessing' in his homily: "to accept the God of Creation (God the Father), to believe the God of Redemption (Jesus) and to commit to the God of Liberation (Holy Spirit).."

"This sister now cries out to us because of the harm we have inflicted on her by our irresponsible use and abuse of the goods with which God has endowed her. We have come to see ourselves as her lords and masters, entitled to plunder her at will. The violence present in our hearts, wounded by sin, is also reflected in the symptoms of sickness evident in the soil, in the water, in the air and in all forms of life."
