The University of Negros Occidental led the OAR communities in Negros during the closing of OAR Year of Holiness.
The UNO-R Campus Ministry Office headed by VP-Religious Affairs and University Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Persiuz Joseph Decena, OAR, has sent invitations to the academic community to join in the celebration of the Septenary Masses in honor of St. Nicholas of Tolentino, Patron Saint of the university and his feast day on September 10. The Septenary Masses starts on September 3 and ends on September 9.
The community of the University of Negros Occidental -Recoletos is all set for the 2017 University Week which will commence on September 4, Monday, and will close on September 10, 2017, Sunday. This year’s Execom is composed of Rev. Fr. Louie Gabinete, OAR – Over-all Chairperson; Dr. Carmenda Leonoras – Chair, Administrative Division and Engr. Christopher Taclobos – Chair, Programs Division.
Highlights of this year’s U-week are Septenary Masses and Fiesta of Nicholas of Tolentino; Opening and Closing ceremonies; Search for Mr. and Ms. University Week 2017; Sports Events; academic and technical seminars and training, exhibits and expositions; the Alumni Noon and Recoletos Dance Craze.
Other u-week traditional activities will also be held.
The theme of the 2017 University week is “Heeding the call to Holiness” to attune to the OAR celebration of the “Year of Holiness” as declared by Prior General, Fr. Miguel Miru and the logo is designed by Mr. Avelino Kalalang III.
On the occasion of the Feast of St. Ezekiel Moreno, Patron Saint of Cancer patients , the Recoletos Social Outreach Center (RESOURCE ) Handumanan Foundation, Inc. at Purok San Ezekiel Moreno, Brgy Handumanan, Bacolod City held a Medical mission activity last August 13, 2017. More than a hundred recipient –patients availed of the Free Medical consultation/ check-up and free medicines provided for the residents of Purok St. Ezekiel.
The Medical Mission was made possible in cooperation with the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital in coordination with the Dr. Pablo O.Torre Memorial Foundation, Inc. (DPOTFI) and with the Siervas de Maria Sisters. There were about twenty-five (25) medical practitioners and volunteers, supporters and partners from Riverside Hospital and DPOTFI who participated in this noble cause. The efforts of Mrs. Jolly A. Protocol no. 0085/17 of July 19, 2017, issued by Rev. Fr. Dionisio Selma, OAR, Prior Provincial of the OAR Province of St. Ezekiel Moreno, confirmed the election by the UNO-R Board of Trustees of Rev. Fr. Don Besana, OAR as Vice President for Academics and Rev. Fr. Perzius Joseph Decena, OAR as Vice President for Religious Affairs of the university.
Prior to this assignment, Fr. Don was the VP-Administration of San Sebastian College, Cavite and he was assigned as Chaplain/ CMO Director of UNO-R in 2001-2003. His former assignments include Cebu, Baguio, Sierra Leone, Baguio, Cavite, and Manila. He made his solemn profession on July 23, 1999, and was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood on December 08, 2000. He was then assigned as Assistant Parish Priest in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Cebu City. He was then assigned to UNO-R in 2001 -2003 where he served as Chaplain, CMO Director, UCDO Director and RESOURCE Treasurer and Vice President. He was then transferred to the Casiciaco Recoletos Seminary (2003-2004)in Baguio as Spiritual Director, Procurator, and Vice Prior. Embracing the call for the missions, Fr. Don went to Kamabai, Sierra Leone in Africa from 2004-2006 where he was made as Prior of the community. In 2006 -2013, he went back to the Seminary in Baguio as Spiritual Director, Dean of Studies, Registrar, Vice Prior and Rector. Fr4om 2013 -2015, he was assigned to San Sebastian College –Recoletos, Manila as VP-administration and HRDC Director. And in 2015 he was assigned to SSC-R, Cavite as Vice Prior, VP-Administration, and HRMO Director. Recently, Fr. Don received his degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Management from St. Louis University in Baguio.
On the other hand, Fr. Perzius is also the University Chaplain and the Director of the Campus Ministry Office (CMO). The UNO-R School Board has also appointed Fr. Perzius Director of Religious Education for the academic year 2017-2018.
The School Board also appointed Rev. Fr. Abraham Latoza, OAR as the Principal of the UNO-R Integrated School while Rev. Fr. Louie Gabinete, OAR as Director for Scholarships, concurrent to his being the Vice President for Student Welfare.
The University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos Religious Education Department under Rev. Fr. Ronel Gealon, OAR held its 18th Solidarity day on March 10, 2017. The theme is “ Blessed are the Merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” (Mt. 5:7). The program opened with a walk for life. This is a sacrificial walk to bring out the message to all that Unorians are for life. “Stand up for life from womb to tomb! Raise your voice against the death penalty, abortion, suicide, drug abuse, pre-marital sex, and extra-judicial killing. Everyone can give life, join us! March for life the UNO-Rian way” was the call of Fr. Gealon to all Uno-rians.
The Rector and the General Vice President of Universitas Agustiniana in Bogota Colombia will visit the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos on February 09, 2017. Rev. Fr. Carlos Alberto Villabona Vargas, OAR and Dr. Ricardo Rojas Lopez will have a talk with the Religious and lay Administrators, faculty and staff, and students of the university. The visit is the forge a memorandum of understanding between UNO-R and Universitas Agustiniana, Colombia on areas of: student and faculty mobility, cultural exchange; research collaboration, participation and invitations to seminars and academic meetings; special short-term academic programs and joint degree programs.
The University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos had its ground breaking ceremony of the four –storey Integrated School Building ,January 5 , 2017. This new facility is built to house the Basic Education Department of the university.
The University celebrated the 428th day of the Order last Dec. 5, 2016. The day started with the Vocation Talk at the auditorium at 7:30 am. It was attended by Religious Education students. It was followed by a concelebrated Thanksgiving Mass led by Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon, SDB, DD. The Bishop reminded everyone to be in communion with God. It is through loving and sharing to one another that makes Christmas a memorable event. The Bishop also asked everyone to be in contemplation with the Blessed Trinity. He encouraged everyone to see the Triune God in each one.
