Fr. Ángel Martínez Cuesta, OAR, is a historian renowned not only in the bosom of the Augustinian Recollect Family but also in church historians’ circles in the Philippines and in the Spanish-speaking world. He was born in Brullés in the Spanish province of Burgos on 26 September 1938 to a big family. A few days after his birth, his elder brother Jesús, who later authored textbooks in Spanish—then a mandatory course for college and high school—used in Recollect educational institutions in the Philippines, entered the Augustinian Recollect minor seminary in Lodosa, Navarra.

The University of Negros Occidental - Recoletos hosted the three-day  Recoletos Educational Apostolate in the Philippines (REAP) lecture – workshop on Augustinian Values and Pedagogical Principles, UNO-R Gymnasium, November 16-18, 2017. The Activity was participated by OAR schools in the Negros Island, namely, UNO-Recoletos; Colegio de San Nicholas de Tolentino, Talisay; San Pedro Academy – Recoletos, and San Pedro Academy – Recoletos, Negros Oriental; and Colegio de Santo Tomas -  Recoletos, San Carlos City.

MANILA – After 72 years in hibernation, the Catholic Church in the Philippines has revived the devotion to the Nuestra Señora de la Salud (Our Lady of Health) Novena with a Holy Mass held at the San Nicolas de Tolentino Parish in Project 6, Quezon City on Nov. 17.

The University of Negros Occidental led the OAR communities in Negros during the closing of OAR Year of Holiness.
