31st SCORES Opens in UNO - R

BACOLOD CITY - Drum beats and cheers signaled the opening of the 31st season of the Students' Congress of Recollect Schools (SCORES), welcoming the eighty-seven delegates of nine Recollect Schools today, by this year's host, University of Negros Occidental - Recoletos.

Msgr. Louie Galbines concelebrated the Holy Mass with the Recollect priests prior to the Opening Program.

"Truth without mercy is cruelty; mercy without truth is sentimentality," Msgr. Galbines said, stressing this year's theme, "Recollect Youth: Communicators of Truth and Mercy."

The Opening Program included the showcase of Junior High School Department's talents, turning over of the delegates to the hosts families and a recap of the first day.

"Proclaim the truth and lead the youth in Jesus' name," University President Fr. Eduardo S. Celiz, OAR emphasized in his opening remarks.

The participating Recollect schools are University of San Jose - Recoletos, Balamban and Basak campuses, San Sebastian College - Recoletos de Manila, San Sebastian College - Recoletos de Cavite, Colegio de Sto. Tomas - Recoletos, San Carlos City, Colegio San Nicolas de Tolentino - Recoletos, Talisay City, San Pedro Academy - Recoletos, Caidiocan, San Pedro Academy, Valencia and University of Negros Occidental - Recoletos, Bacolod.

To fortify the Recollect youth as communicators of truth and mercy, delegates of the 31st SCORES indulged in talks and a praise and worship concert today.

Rev. Fr. Albert Pellazar, OAR, UNO-R Vice President for Academics, and Rev. Fr. Roy Christian Gesulgon, Dean of Studies in Sacred Heart Seminary, spearheaded the talks on Recollect youth and communicators of truth and mercy.

“You [Lord God] have pierced my heart with your love, and I fell in love with you,” Fr. Pellazar quoted St. Augustine.

Fr. Gesulgon highlighted the importance of hope and joy in upholding truth and mercy.

Fr. Gesulgon said that to be effective communicators of truth and mercy, one has to communicate through hope and joy.

The Praise and Worship Concert ended the day as Pentagon, performed songs of exaltation and glorification.

“Don’t be depressed when you experience heartbreak, for God saved you from a wrong one,” Blanche Sta. Maria, Pentagon’s lead vocalist emphasized.

UNO-R HOSTS 31ST SCORES

THE 31st Student Congress of Recollect Schools (SCORES) is now held at the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos, Bacolod City with the theme, “Recollect Youth:  Communicators of truth and Mercy.” SCORES will run from January 23 – 27, 2017.     

The University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos had its ground breaking ceremony of the four –storey Integrated School Building ,January 5 , 2017.  This new facility is built to house the Basic Education Department of the university.
